1 Peter 4:17-18

"For it is time for judgement to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And if the righteous is scarcely saved, what will come of the ungodly and the sinner?"

I am holding onto this verse this week. It comes in part from Pastor Johns sermon on Sunday. He spoke of the fear of the Lord. Not many people fear the Lord. We should fear God and be terrified of walking away from Him. Please pray for me to fear God more and more in my everyday life. The Scriptures say, "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." "I tell you, fear Him who has the ability to kill you, and afterward cast your soul into hell!" A proper fear of God will cause us to be like Job who shunned evil, who never cursed God but gave Him glory in every situation. I think of Ananias and Saphira. God didn't record that to tell us an awe inspiring story about the early church. No! It is there to teach us-we had better darn well fear sinning against this God-who can strike you down dead! God is holy, that is why we should fear Him. We aren't. We are vile, prone to wander, prone to leave the God we love. We are rebels and transgressors. We are evil and wicked at heart. Why shouldn't we fear Him? Even after we become Christians there is the book of Hebrews to remind us to press on less we believed in vain to the destruction of our souls. Only the righteous will see God. "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God." Only those who stand forgiven in the blood of Jesus with His righteousness accounted to us will we be pure in heart. "Humble yourselves before God and He will exalt you."
