Bible Interpretation 14

Parables are given by our Lord to illustrate a spiritual truth in an earthly way which enables us to grasp what is said. Parables are given to those who are within the Kingdom and used to withhold information and truth from those who are outside of the Kingdom. The etymological meaning of the word parable is “a placing alongside of for the purpose of comparison.” In the use of parables earthly common things are used to describe or teach about spiritual things. The gospels record about thirty parables; Luke has the most. Parables are used to communicate spiritual truth about the Kingdom of Heaven, evangelism, and end times. It is important to remember the historical relevance of the times in which the parables were given. Jesus taught these parables to real people at a real place.
