Repentance and life/ Ezekiel 18

Speaking to the unfaithful house of Israel, Yaweh declares through His prophet, "Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin. Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies, says the Lord GOD. Therefore TURN AND LIVE!"

Genuine repentance is well pleasing to God. In the context of this passage it is to be noted that a repentant heart continues in repentance. As John the Baptist said to those who came to him, "Bear fruit in keeping with repentance." Brother Paul Washer puts it in these terms, "Conversion is not like a flu shot," and "The question is...are you continuing to believe and repent." A new heart is given by God, a new Spirit is given by God. Only those who are regenerate will continue to believe and repent. God's Word to the unregenerate is "TURN AND LIVE!"
