Thoughts on the day: Movies, Books, and Life

I am a fan of good movies. I don't mean the latest popular movie in the theater. I am talking about the great ones. You may like them too. Let me ask you a question, have you ever stopped to think through them? To actually go beyond the temporal situation of a character and a plot. To ask yourself, "who am I in this movie?" Better yet, "who is Jesus", and "what is this story telling me about the Lord, the gospel, and life as it relates to God's standard?" I am not always fast to catch on. I have been a Christian for almost ten years now, I have only recently learned to really watch movies and read books. Praise be to God that His grace causes us to persevere! I have seen too many ridiculous movies to count and far too many good ones to not have learned anything from them. I am sorrowful over the amount of my life that I have wasted watching the good ones and not learning from them. Not any more.

As far as books go- well the same is true of them. I have not read many books beyond The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Narnia. I am well read in theology and christian thought, but my imagination needs some work in the area of books- anyone have a good one they recommend?

Life also tells us the story of the gospel. Not just our conversion experiences, I mean our day to day walk. God is always preaching the gospel to us- we need ears to hear and eyes to see.

May the Lord bless us with ears to hear and eyes to see, that no movies would ever be a waste of time, that not any book would go by without impact, and may our lives be singing the beautiful music of heavenly truth.

Highlands Study Center, R.C. Sproul Jr.

I highly recommend the ministry of the Highlands Study Center, and teachings of R.C. Sproul Jr. I have been listening to the Basement Tapes for over a year now, I have read many of his books, and I have been blessed by the most recent "Sound Teaching" bible studies which I have listened to. I have made the decision to support them every month. Don't ask me why I have taken so long to do this!

The center has a strong emphasis on living simply, separately, and deliberately. All for the King of Kings. I am especially fond of their "antithesis" approach to what they do. They have a distinctively covenantal approach to the scriptures and know about family living (in the church and in the home). I am wanting to attend their couples camp with my wife if the Lord wills.

Having almost joined the ranks of the Mennonite Anabaptists I was directed to a more sound ecclesiastical understanding thanks to these faithful followers of our great King.

Check out the ministry of the Highlands Study Center, get your hands on their material, support them, visit them, spread their stuff- the church needs to hear it! Here is the Link- http://highlandsstudycenter.org/pageDisplay.cfm?CFID=117364&CFTOKEN=59727983

Recent Goings On...

Well, it has been a long long time since I have posted anything! It has been a good break though. God has been doing some miraculous works in my heart and in our family. All praise to His glorious grace for that!

Since I posted last, we have moved to Missouri, been actively engaged in evangelism, bible study, ministering, and taking care of sick children.

I think we have finally found a good church that seems to be right on, in fact the name says it all, the "Orthodox Presbyterian Church." I am excited about God's grace in and through our lives as we will, if God wills, become members there.

I will be posting some more things in times to come, God bless and thanks for reading!!!
